Daily Devotional: Who is Meeting Your Needs? - June 29

“For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

God insists on your looking to Him alone for the meeting of your needs. You covet when you seek to meet your own needs, or look to any other person than God for the meeting of your need. When you covet you commit idolatry. 256

God may use others to meet your needs; He probably will. For example, my wife and children meet my needs in a wonderful way. But this is different from saying that I look to my family for the meeting of my needs. So also in all of my relationships in life.

There are certain tell-tail signs that indicate that you are looking to others for the meeting of your needs. “I have written or phoned numerous times. I am not going to continue until they reciprocate.” “I give them Christmas presents every year, and never receive one in return; I think I am going to stop giving.” When you perceive that your needs are inadequately met you feel hurt and are tempted to put the relationship in jeopardy.

You do not give to people because they gave to you. Rather you give because you are the obedient servant of Jesus and He asks you to give, and because God meets your needs. You must relate to others the same way that Jesus related to people. He did not come into the world go get, but to give; not to be served, but to serve. Emulate the way He lived, and look to your Father for the meeting of your needs.
